Next week's schedule (Oct. 1-5)

Hello everyone!
Now that classes are back and the first week is behind us, I wanted to share with you the new schedule of activities.
This week will be a little bit different because I'm offering a lecture. So, the schedule for this week is the following:

Monday:      Conversation Club      17:40-18:40      N001

Wednesday: Daily Usage English   17:40-18:40      N001

Thursday:     Lecture                       11-12                N011
                                                        17:40-18:40      N011

Since it's October, Halloween month, the topic of the lecture will be Urban Legends! Come check it out!
On normal weeks, where I don't offer lectures, Thursday's session will be Lesson Planning.

Here is a description of the sessions offered:

CONVERSATION CLUB:
I bring some type of text (an article, a video, a song, etc.) and prepare questions that focus on your opinions and comparisons that we might draw between the U.S. and Brazil. This is a great opportunity for you to talk to your classmates about your thoughts on different cultural and societal issues. Also, we sometimes use the first 10 minutes of the session for a writing activity.

DAILY USAGE ENGLISH:
In this session, we focus more on "practical" English use. Some examples of topics and scenarios we have covered are city tours and giving directions, restaurants, and mock interviews. Similar topics will be covered in future sessions, with the same focus of learning English that can be used in everyday situations.

LESSON PLANNING:
This session should be helpful to those of you who are currently teaching, plan on teaching, or have an interest in learning more about planning lessons and classes for language students. We work with one grammatical or vocabulary topic per week and develop and discuss activities for language students to practice this topic.

JOURNAL WRITING:
This is not an activity for which we will hold weekly meetings. A "journal entry" is basically a type of free writing of any length and topic. The purpose of this type of writing is not to worry very much about grammatical errors, but to write freely. I'll post a topic on the blog every two weeks. Your entry can be as long or short as you wish (no less than one paragraph, no more than two pages). You can email me what you've written, I will take a look at it and send it back to you. You'll have 10 days from the day that I post the topic to send me your journal entry. I'll have the next 4 days to look at it and send it back.

One last thing, this week I'll be visiting all of the regular classes I attended before the strike, and would love to advertise these events! Please come with ANY questions! And, as always, email me with any questions: cynthialmartinez0@gmail.com
